Now more than ever, with climate change and sustainability at the forefront, the VSGP want to encourage more schools to increase their greenspace and take learning outdoors.
School gardens serve as additional classrooms where students can learn about productive gardening, biodiversity and sustainability. They provide the perfect environment in which to engage the young and old alike – bringing students, teachers, parents and local communities together in a shared experience of ‘hands on’ learning.
By establishing and/or expanding green environments within your school, not only does it improve the aesthetic appearance but can make an exciting outside learning environment, with further benefits to student’s health and wellbeing. By involving students in the process, they take ownership, pride and care in the natural environment.
Students have an opportunity to explore fresh ideas in the face of climate change and get involved in the development of their schools’ green spaces.
